What is a Powerflush?

A Powerflush is a cleansing process which aims to remove deposits of sludge, rust and any other debris from your central heating system.

A lot of the larger companies miss sell powerflushes though to generate income. If you have a maintenance contract and have been told you need one and want a second opinion, id be happy to get a look and discuss the options with you. In most cases i’m able to beat the prices the customers have been given.

Why might you need a powerflush?

A Powerflush fixes problems that you might not be able to see.

Sludge, rust and debris from the chemical reaction process where metals react in water at different rates. Normally an inhibitor is added into a heating system to prevent this reaction taking place but over time this can become diluted or if the system has been drained and no fresh inhibitor has been added.

Sludge build up causes cold spots usually at the bottom of your radiators, This means they don’t heat up as efficiently as they should and your boiler has to work harder using more energy. A dirty system water, a restricted boiler and pump can cause breakdowns. It is estimated that 87% of boiler breakdowns are due to poor system water quality.

How is a Powerflush done?

A high pressure pumping machine is connected to the system and a cleaning chemical is added to help break down the sludge and dirt. Magnetic filters are attached to the machine and these filters trap the dirt from your system. Radiators are cleaned individually and the system is refilled with fresh water and inhibitor chemical added. For best results we would recommend a magnetic system filter is fitted permanently to the system.

The time and cost to Powerflush a system depends on the size of system and how badly restricted it is.
